Victorian Open SC Championships

Eleven Traralgon swimmers took part in the Victorian Open Swimming Championships over the weekend of August 3/4. The swimmers, aged 13 – 16 years, brought home 1 gold, three silver and three bronze medals and broke 13 Out of Gippsland Records and two Country Victorian records.

Mikaela Cornelissen (15) won a bronze in the Women’s 100m fly breaking the age and Open OOG record as well as the 14-15yrs Country record with a 1:01.87. Mikaela competed in 8 events, placing 4th in three – 50m backstroke (29.22), 100m backstroke (1:02.55) and 50m butterfly (27.39). In all three events Mikaela broke OOG records, and set a new 14-15yrs Country mark with the 100m backstroke result.

Ellodie Reid (13) won bronze in the 400m freestyle in a 4:22.33.Ellodie placed 4th in the 800m freestyle swimming a 9:04.91. Ellodie also swan in the 1500m freestyle, placing 5th with a time of 17:50.06. All three of Ellodie’s swims created new OOG records.

Emily Beecroft (13) continued her fine form winning one gold (50m breaststroke 43.06), 3 silver (50m butterfly 36.87, 100m breaststroke 1:34.45 and 50m freestyle 32.08) and 1 bronze (100m freestyle 1:11.94) in the SWD category.

Georgia Tsebelis (16) placed 5th in both the 50m freestyle (26.38) and the 50m backstroke (29.66). Taylah DaRos broke the OOG record in the 50m butterfly for 16 years swimming a 28.94 in the heat prior to Mikaela who broke the record for the second time in the event. Fabienne Schoutens placed 8th in the gruelling 1500m freestyle event and Brayden Haney placed 9th in the 200m breaststroke bringing the Traralgon total for top ten finishes to 19.

Trent Morrow, Riley Akers, Melina deCort and Erin Roberts joined the Traralgon team for a SC hit out leading into State Age and the Country SC Championships
