“Emily Beecroft” Junior Development

Children who come straight from Learn to Swim, either from the Ford Swim Centre or from another program, will be placed in the Junior Development Squad.  However, as swimming club is not a ‘learn to swim’ program, swimmers must have the minimum ability to swim 25m backstroke and 25m freestyle with correct breathing and no stopping to be ‘squad ready’. Two (2) sessions are available each week and children are required to attend both Strength and Conditioning and Swim sessions.

The Junior Development Squad is named for Traralgon swimmer, Emily Beecroft.  Emily developed her skill and love of swimming coming up through the junior ranks in the club.  A swimmer with a disability, Emily has not let this or anything else stand in her way.  She was our first Australian representative, attending the Rio Paralympics, and will swim in the Para World Championships this year in Mexico.  Emily is a wonderful ambassador for the Traralgon Swimming Club and a great role model for the youngest of our developing athletes.

The Club places equal emphasis on Strength and Conditioning and Swimming and if swimmers wish to progress through the Squad structure they will need to know the basics of excellent land and water position. We recommend swimmers compete in local meets throughout the year to understand and develop racing skills. The Coaching Panel’s goal is for all swimmers in this squad to attend five (5) local meets, compete at the Gippsland Championships (Gippy’s) and earn a Club Trophy at Presentation Night. They must compete for the Club if a 2nd year swimmer at Gippsland meets and qualify and compete at Gippsland Championships (March 2017).

2 x Swim and 2 Strength & Conditioning sessions per week.
