Club Support Network

The medical, physio, nutritional and personal well being network of the Club for swimmers has been developed over the last 18 years.  It is important for parents and swimmers to understand that we need a group of professionals who liaise with each other and with the coaches so we know what is going on physically, mentally, and health wise with all the swimmers under our care.

Parents are investing a large part of their time (and money) in to helping their children become better athletes and better people. The Club therefore employs a Coaching group lead by Brian which has to have access and confidence in the professionals they are dealing with to ensure they are familiar with the Club’s standards, values and culture. Further we have to ensure the professionals we are dealing with are comparable or better than what is offered in the other top Club’s in Victoria and Australia.

It is on this premise that we strongly advise all members to use the Club’s network of professional Support staff as follows. Use of other professionals should be discussed with Brian, Dean, Cam or Sam.

Strength and Conditioning Coach/Nutritionist

Sam Fenton – McDonald Way, Churchill –  0421 993 897

Sam has been the Club’s S & C coach for over 20 years and is the first point of contact for any swimmer wishing to progress out of the water. Sam is available to all swimmers to assist their physical development and may be required to individualise certain programs if the athlete requires greater assistance. Sam has a masters degree in High Performance Sport, is completing a Phd in Physical Literacy and is also well versed in the Nutritional needs of our team.

Physiotherapist

Claire Issel – 16-18 Grey Street, Traralgon – 9828 7518
5 Contingent Street, Trafalgar  – 5633 2986

Claire has been the Club’s physio for over 5 years and has had extensive experience with swimming injuries. Sam and Claire speak regularly about all “matters swimming” and the connection between the two of them is extremely important to monitor the progress of the athlete. Claire will undertake the Skeletal Assessment for our Squads (and Academy of Sport swimmers)and is a key contact for all physiotherapy needs.

We have a standing appointment with Claire every Tuesday in Traralgon at 4:30pm which can only be arranged through Senior Head Coach Brian Ford.  You can make a direct booking if you choose.

Andrew Cameron – 0427 047 317

Andrew is an ex-National Traralgon swimmer who is a fully qualified physiotherapist specialising in screenings for our athletes and establishing strategies and conditioning programs with Sam Fenton to prevent injuries.

Andrew has been chosen as the Physio for the  Australian 2017 team to the World University Games and we are fortunate to have him as part of our club network.

Masseur

Veronica Roberts – Grey Street, Traralgon – 0402 445 693

Veronica has been Club masseur for many years, liaises extensively with Claire and Sam and has been involved in many National, State and Country team trips with the Club. Her expertise with the swimmers with pre, post and remedial massage has been a crucial part in the development of our “network” of swimming specialists.

Doctor

Roger Fitzgerald – Retired

Roger has been assisting the Club for over 20 years and has been instrumental in the Club adopting a Flu injection program and the assistance in understanding Blood Testing for checking iron levels. His experience with our swimmers means we have access to a doctor who understands the training, medical and health regime required by junior athletes and keeping them in the water.

If any athlete or parent has a medical concern or question please refer to Brian who will obtain the answer from Roger within 24 hours.
