The Club’s Annual Presentation night was held on Saturday, May 14 at the Premier Function Room in Traralgon.
This ‘gala’ evening of trophies, congratulations and thanks was attended by approx 230 members and guests including Life Members.
The evening began at 4pm with a recap of the 2015-16 Swimming season presented by club president, Jane Mitchell. This annual tradition highlights the many events and activities undertaken by club members from May-April each season also calling to mind the many successes of the club and its members. This is followed by the 10 & under trophy presentation and a buffet dinner. The Senior (11 & Over) presentation follows. The night finishes with a viewing of the “Country DVD”, this year produced by Nicole Moon and Eclipse Productions, recalling the successes and antics from the 2016 Country Championships held in Bendigo.
Throughout the evening club trophies for participation and achievement are awarded. Also given are trophies and certificates acknowledging other accomplishments. Amongst these are included Coach’s Awards given to swimmers from each squad who are considered to epitomise the values and strengths that define successful and developing athletes. The Club’s top ten swimmers based on seasonal points and the Club Champion, Mikaela Cornelissen, were named. Winners of all awards are listed below.
The Brian Ford Trophy for “Best Relay Swim of the Season” is another highlight as the joy and success of relay teams is such an integral part of the Club. Brian spoke of some of the great relay swims of the season – as there are always many – and chose the swimmer he felt delivered and extra-ordinary performance: 12 year old Neisha Ablett, breaststroker in the 12 & Under Gold medal State relay who delivered a pb swim to help that team to victory.
It was another outstanding night which finished the past season and primes the club for the coming year which begins in the next week. Thank you to Heather and Robyn for their support in organising the trophies and pre-dinner ‘nibbles’, to Mark Waltham for his carefully collated stats and to club coaches and captains for their thoughtful presentations.
