Traralgon continued its domination of the Victorian Country Short Course Championships with its 5th straight win at Wangaratta over the weekend. Going into the meet as “underdog” with Geelong club seeded ahead of Traralgon based on rankings going into the meet, the Club’s swimmers pulled out over 90 % PB’s and won by 452 points with a total of 1,772 to Geelong second on 1,320 and Warnambool third on 1,140.
12 year old Alex Tsebelis was the outstanding swimmer for the Club with 2 gold, 3 silver and 2 bronze medals and 7 Out of Gippsland records for his age in the 100 free (57.94), 200 free ( 2.05.89), 100 back (1.03.95), 100 breast( 1.14.80), 100 fly (1.03.55 ), 100 IM ( 1.05.68) and 200 IM ( 2.22.53).
Mikaela Cornelissen had a fantastic meet with 5 gold,1silver and 1bronze, Emily Beecroft was the the standout multiclass swimmer with 4 gold and 1 silver and Cameron Juha the top 18 years and over male with 4 gold and 2 bronze medals.
Overall 25 swimmers won 25 gold,16 silver and and 21 bronze medals with another 15 from the 58 swimmer strong team having top 10 finishes.
A great weekend was had by all swimmers with Senior Head Coach Brian Ford praising the teamwork of the group – ” The swimmers were challenged to perform above their rankings, they competed with amazing spirit both in and out of the water and the end result was probably one of the Club’s finest performances – a sensational result for a sensational team!”
A tremendous effort and full compliments to the team coaches Ben Geard and Dean Gooch ably assisted by fabulous team managers Heather Haney, Veronica Roberts, Frank Bezinna and Judi Buhagiar.
