The Traralgon Swimming Club convincingly won the La Trobe City Cup meet recently held at Warragul by a considerable margin – 4968 points to the next team, Melbourne based Surrey Park (2582) with Warragul (821) third.
This is the 7th year in succession the TSC team has won this Meet and trophy.
Represented by 95 swimmers there were some outstanding record breaking performances on the day by the Traralgon team members.
12 year old Jasmine Doultree was in a class of her own winning the Age Group Champion and breaking a Gippsland record in the 12 year 100 metre Butterfly event in 1.09.01.
14 year old Mikaela Cornelissen dead heated in the Open 100 metre Free and broke the age group 100 metre Butterfly record in 1.05.28.
15 year old Georgia Tsebelis is showing that she is on the road to recovery after long illness with a slashing swim in the Open 100 metre backstroke breaking the 16/under record in a time of 1.05.47.
Her 11 year old brother Alex was also in fine form winning Age Group Champion and breaking the 12 /under 50 metre back (32.23) and 200 metre freestyle (2.18.07) records taking out big names such as Brenton Ford (2000) and Jeremy Saunders (2002) from the record books.
Finally the 12 years and under boys 4 x 50 Free relay of Locke Degaris, Oscar Harry, Jaycob Fisher and Alex Tsebelis smashed the existing Gippsland record of 2.05.77 held since 1999 by over 5 seconds in a time of 2.00.59.

This meet was a great warm up for the Victorian Country Short Course Championships which will be held in Wangaratta on 11/12 August. The Club has 57 swimmers qualified and will be seeking to the win that meet for the 4th time in succession.
In other swimming news in the Club Traralgon featured very highly at the recent Swimming Victoria Annual Presentation Awards. President, Jane Mitchell, won the Administrator of the Year for the second time which is a true testament to the work she does with Traralgon, Gippsland Swimming and the Swimming Victoria Open Water Committee. Senior Head Coach, Brian Ford, won the Country Coach of the Year for the 8th time leading his enthusiastic Coaching team to another Country Championship win in January this year; and, Jeremy Meyer won the “Alan Blue” Trophy for the most outstanding Victorian Country Swimmer for the 4th time.
